Carpal tunnel syndrome

If the median nerve in the hand (nervus medianus) becomes trapped in the carpal tunnel in the wrist, annoying symptoms can develop, such as tingling in the fingers (mainly the thumb, index and middle fingers), numbness in the hand, a loss of feeling, a loss of power and even pain during the night. A nerve test, called an electromyography (or EMG), can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. A simple operation to release the nerve can resolve the symptoms.
